LOVIN' OUR BODIES Motivations

Hi, ladies! It's Monday again. There's no special guest this week, so you're stuck with me. :)

I have THE ULTIMATE NEW YORK BODY PLAN by David Kirsch. I've never strictly followed the "plan." But I like to use some of the exercises illustrated in the book, and I do see results from them. I also like the way Kirsch takes a three-pronged approach to making-over your body: Diet, Exercise, and Empowerment.

The cover of the book touts "Just 2 weeks to a total transformation." I know there's no such thing as a true quick fix, but I also know that seeing results quickly will motivate me to keep working. If you're like me, you might like this book.

From Chapter 1: "I believe that total transformation is possible by adhering to certain tenets. Self-acceptance and self-love are paramount and help contribute to a sense of wellness and, if you will, soundness of mind and soundness of body...We can embrace our life and the circumstances surrounding it. Change isn't necessarily a bad thing, although it can be scary. Choose to change the things that truly matter. Learn to focus on the positive, and be grateful for all your blessings."

One of the things I take from this: Remember why you're working so hard to improve your body. Health, first and foremost. But also, quality of life. The better you feel, the happier you and everyone around you will be. And the people who love you just might have you around a little longer. Also, I can admit, when I look better, I feel better. I'm too vain to not let my appearance affect every other part of my life.

Here's a motivational quote that I love:

"If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you're right." - Mary Kay Ash.

Truer words have never been spoken.

How was your weekend? Do you have anything new planned for this week? Are your goals changing? (Not that they need to.) Are you happy with the strides you made? Do you need us to help you in any way? Remember that's what we're here for.

Happy MOnday Wendi and everyone! Did you get out this weekend?

I think those are very good words, and what I'm striving for. I should get my blood tests back soon and start getting the diet part of my life on track. Since the doctor believes I have Celiac that means I'll have to eat gluten-free. So, I'm trying to get myself geared up for that.

I'm still walking, some nights not as fast, but I'm getting out there. The family and I did walk around the Saturday market, but it was actually too dang hot to do mini-golf, so we saw Star Trek. Not sure how that works into exercise, but I loved the movie, lol.

And the empowerment - am so working on that. Surrounding myself with positive and motivated people helps me stay on track, too. Before when I've gone it alone I find I can easily talk myself out of doing something good for myself ;) I'm really enjoying all the extra back-up.

This week I hope to up my walking by another 5 minutes.

Thanks for the book link, Wendi. I'll have to check that out. I haven't found any 1 exercise plan that I've ever "strictly" followed but I have found that even my own modified version of ones helps. I, too, do better with at least a small amount of quick results. It makes you feel like you are really doing something and keeps you motivated to do more.

This week I'm focusing on getting back on my diet. I fussed (and over induged) on too many carbs last week and saw the price of that fun over the weekend. I don't feel as well when I indulge too much.

I started off with my usual exercise this morning. On the days when the weather holds, the kids will keep me moving in the yard. I'm trying to get motivated to get on the tredmill on rainy days. Maybe that will be my new goal for this week.

Ann, you're doing great. I'm glad you liked the quote. Adding another five minutes to your walk sounds like a fabulous goal for this week! You can definitely do it. :)

Tonya, it stinks how quickly we pay for those backslides, doesn't it. :) You're doing great. You're disciplined and I'm sure this week you'll whip those carb cravings into shape. :) Great job on the exercise this morning.

An old trick I use when I'm craving chocolate or something equally sinful is to drink a glass of chocolate milk. I use skim milk and sugar free Nestle Quik. It fills me up and takes away that craving. Let us know if you find any tricks that work for you.

I broke my own rule this morning and didn't exercise first thing. My walk was ruined by the rain and I decided to run errands instead of doing the elliptical. BUT I will exercise before the day is out, and I'll report it here, just so I'm held accountable. :)

I finally worked out tonight. And honestly if I hadn't said I'd check in here, I'd have blown it off. :) Thanks for keeping me in line.

Tomorrow I'm spending the day shopping with a girlfriend, but we're not going until we've both worked out.

I hope you all have a productive week. And a group hug to Jami. Her 17 yr old Rottweiler passed away this week.

Hugs to Jami!

I walked last night with the additional five minutes - fortunately I got back in right before it started to pour. I wasn't wearing a jacket, otherwise I would've been fine. I actually don't mind walking in the rain - it's peaceful that way - no kids out making noise or guys working on their cars. lol

Good for you Wendi! And have a great time shopping!

I'm hoping to start walking in the mornings - but so far lack the energy that early. But maybe that will change once the doc gets my blood test results back and we can finally start getting me back on the road to healthy!

Everyone stay strong :) I know I'm sure going to try! And I do keep coming back here and rereading the past posts to keep me motivated. Thank you for that!

Great job, Ann! Today is that magical hump day again. I hope everyone is having a great week. I've been swamped today with stuff outside the house. I haven't even had time to host a release day party or blog about my story that came out today. :)

It's been raining non-stop here. I haven't walked in three days, but I've been doing my elliptical instead.
